About Andre

André Monde de Lang boasts a rich and colourful heritage of the Maccatees/Xhosa/Khoi San and Griekwa bloodline. The eldest of 7 brothers and sisters growing up on a farm in the small town of Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Raised under the harsh realities of the oppressive system of apartheid, music and running were the two passions that allowed André to dream and escape the harshness of that time. Since school was about 7 kilometres away from home, running 14 kilometres every day became second nature to him. Music was a common language in the family. André and his younger brother, Sarell, together formed a musical force that went against the status quo by being the first people of colour to enter an all-white talent show called "The Eastern Cape Herald on the Go Show" in Port Elizabeth. Not only did they enter this Talent Show, but they went on to win it two years in a row. That opened the door for more people of colour to start participating in this competition, which contributed towards helping to change the outlook of the landscape in that region.

Around the early 1980’s, a Swedish Choral Maestro, Anders Nyberg, spotted de Lange’s talent and was so impressed with him that he promised to take him to Sweden. By 1986/87, André was offered a Scholarship to study music, in Sweden.

In the years that he has spent in Sweden to date, André has worked with many top Swedish Artists that include Jerry Williams, Blacknuss, Titiyo, Eric Bibb, Per Lindvall and many others. André, as a Solo Artist, has recorded 3 Albums under Sony/BMG/Diesel Music. Currently he is putting final touches to his 4th Album through Repute Records AB, working with Producer extraordinaire, Glen Scott, a well-respected Musician, Singer/Song-Writer & Music Producer who has collaborated with well-established Artists that include Mary J. Blige, Backstreet Boys, James Morrison, Craig David and many others.

This new project is a very personal musical journey for André as he revisits sounds, nuances, languages and landscapes that informed his upbringing in the small town of Humansdorp, in a Region now known as the Sarah Baartman District.
